English blacksmith. Jewitt was the armorer aboard the ship Boston when it sailed from the Downs on September 3, 1802. En route to China, theship stopped at Nootka Sound, a busy trading port on the western shore off Vancouver Island. Here the ship and crew were taken into captivity by the Indians occupying the sound.
